It's not only the life blood of the engine, it’s about performance as well. To illuminate friction n grinding of metal surfaces and to carry the generating heat away, proper selection of an oil type with correct viscosity and regular maintenances are MUSTs for a healthier and long life engine.I found an interesting answer for Air-cooled engines from Porsche, from their ‘84 Porsche 911 owner’s manual oil rec.
Thru personal experience over the years, I always go for multi grade SAE 15W-40 or 50 with change intervals of every 2000 miles (3200Km).
